In Hong Kong, besides the cord blood units stored in the public Cord Blood Bank, there is no cord blood registry for Asians.
Hence, we advocate CRYOmatch programme and provide free HLA (human leukocyte antigen) typing test to clients. The CRYOLIFE Cord Blood Registry is officially established. It is an unique infrastructure with HLA tissue typing information in the search for a compatible cord blood sample for transplant. When a demand for cord blood sample arises, we will match patient's HLA type information with all samples in the Registry.
Through the CRYOmatch initiative, we are expanding the local community's access to cord blood for transplant therapy whenever a demand arises. To promote the importance of CRYOmatch, we absorb the expense required by the HLA typing test conducted in US laboratory.
